Toilet Kids is certainly the wackiest game ever released for the
PC Engine system. It is a vertical shooter very similar to Xevious
or Dragon Spirits. But all similarities stop right here.
Toilet Kids is a really strange game where a kid attempts to
escape a world full of flying turds, bottoms, willies and other
porcelain thrones, as some call them. Our hero, or heroes I should
say, are two kids warped into a strange and mystical world hidden
inside... their toilets. They can now fly a 'toilet' shaped ship,
fire bullets in the air or drop bombs on the ground. The game counts
four stages and the usual half-way and end of stage bosses. Extra
weapons are also hidden inside giant poo-poos and other weird ground
elements ( shields, rapid fire, super-bombs etc...). A special
and powerful blow can also be charged up when holding the fire
button. A second player can even join the action and take the
role of a girl, probably our hero's sister. Yeah, honestly, you
always need a friend to share those wacky moments.

Only japanese game makers can produce this sort of wacky games and we shouldn't
blame them for that. I personnaly think Toilet Kids is quite fun to play
and has some funny moments (even if players are faced with the same poo-poo
jokes over and over). Graphics, despite being simple, are correct and colorful.
Musics and sound effects, however, are a let down. All in all, Toilet Kids
is an unusual curiosity but the action is awfully repetitive and there aren't
that many unique elements in the game passed the first "Oh my god, I'm firing at
flying willies !". My advice would be to only buy it if you find it cheap, there
are tons of vertical shooters out there that are way better than Toilet Kids.
But it is one of a kind, I have to admit...
