Kaiser's Quest is a simple strategy game with a
Mahjong twist. The player takes control of either a knight,
a Samurai or an Arabian knight, and embarks on
a long journey to take over the sixteen kingdoms in the country.
His quest starts with battling the local king and eventually winning his
beloved daughter who will follow our hero
throughout his journey. The visited fantasy world is
vast and our knight must travel though green lands, forests and
capture each kingdom's castle. Enemies are dotted across the map,
such as knights and mages, and our hero must defeat them in order to proceed.
However, he must battle them in Mahjong duels! He starts with
a set amount of points and must win his enemies' points
in order to win a battle. Fountains scattered around each map also
refills our hero's points instantly. Kaiser's Quest
features a more traditional one-on-one Mahjong mode as well.

Kaiser's quest is a cute and fun Mahjong game. There are
no adventure or RPG elements though, you just walk around a map,
defeat knights and other enemies in Mahjong duels and capture
castles with a beautiful princess by your side. She can also
be a little naughty and will reveal some of her charms as the game progresses.
However, I must warn you, the game has no saving option whatsoever
and capturing the sixteen castles takes a very long time.
Additionally, although the first battles
are fun to play, they quickly become repetitive and devoid of variation.
You'll just battle more powerful enemies who just happen to have
more points. I also feel that the game doesn't play fair - kings,
for instance, can pull off a tsumo or ron in no time!
All in all, Kaiser's quest is a fun and cute Mahjong game with
a nice added 'strategy' twist to the traditional formula.
But once the novelty wears off the game ends up being a little
shallow...
