PC Denjin is a side scrolling shooter by Red and published
by Hudson Soft.
The little and bald prehistoric fellow is back and eager to fight once more,
but this time no head-kicking nor bare-teeth
hill climbing. PC Denjin is a crazy shooter
stuffed with wacky and insane action. Our hero character is somehow very different too -
this time he is a flying sunglass-wearing cyborg who fights his way through
five intense levels. He is also not alone to face the challenges ahead and the
army of minions the evil King Droll sends agains him - he is
accompanied by new friends, from a massive robot-rocket to a flying mummy
and a big and round floating cow. Smilies and power-ups can of course be
collected throughout the game and a special and large sunglass-wearing smiley
can call one of PC Denjin's friend to the rescue. But this is not all, if he collects the
same kind of smiley twice, then they'll both do a mind-blowing mega-fusion.
Freaky stuff. On top of being able to use a large selection of weapons,
the player can also charge them up at any time by
holding the fire button. Wait too long, and PC Denjin over-heats and
drops a huge sunglass-wearing purple poo-poo that explodes and causes
a fair amount of damage to all nearby enemies.

It is interesting to notice that in the United States, Zonk replaced Bonk
to promote the TurboGrafx-16 and especially the Turbo Duo.
Maybe his black sun-glasses made him look
cooler (and definitively more "badass") than his big headed caveman friend who was probably not "In"
anymore, and too weak to compete against the super-sonic blue Hedgehog
who started to promote Sega's Genesis consoles at the time.
The American version was also slightly modified - for instance the
big Poo-Poo bomb launched when PC Denjin is fully charged-up
was replaced by a bomb (picture on the left).

See PC Genjin (Pce-Hu) for more information
about the PC-Genjin characters and his origins.

Teaser text from the American version:
The Evil King Drool has sent forth powerful cyber
robots to carry out his evil designs. But a team of
cool, sunglass-wearing warriors lead by Zonk
have discovered his plot and have risen against
him. In hopes of defeating this team, King Drool
sends wave after wave of terrible cyber robots.
But by combining their power, Zonk and his
friends can destroy even the worst of the cyber
robots. get ready! The fight is bout to begin!

PC Denjin is brilliant. The game features colorful and cute graphics, a funky
soundtrack, really wacky enemies and alternately huge and imaginative bosses.
But, most of all, the gameplay
is flawless and is also something of a triumph. However, the game is really easy
and not that hard to complete on the first or second go - but it is vast enough (levels
are huge and packed with tons of enemies) to keep you busy for a long
while before you see the end of it. It is also
interesting to notice that some of the game staff can be
also found in the credits of Naxat Soft's excellent Coryoon.
Both games seem
to indeed share a few things in common (they do somewhat have the same feel
and gameplay mechanics). All in all, this game is a gem and Red nailed
another perfect hit!
