Exile II Janen no Jishō is an action/RPG published by
Telenet and is the sequel to Exile Toki No Hazama
released in 1991. The world of Chaltar is at stake and
Sadorā (aka Sadler) returns as the main protagonist and titular character
of the series. Nearly, as his first task is to look for his friends
in the nearby towns. Unlike the previous episodes of the series,
Sadler is here one of several possible playable characters -
the cute but lethal Rūmī (aka Rumi), the strong Kindi and the mystic
Fakīru (aka Fakhyle) follow our hero in his quest and can be controlled.
Exile II Janen no Jishō follows the same formula laid out by
its predecessors and the game alternates between fighting and exploring.
The first part gets Sadorā to walk around towns, talk to villagers
or purchase new equipment. The fighting phases are classic hack-and-slash
action scenes set in countless hostile locations - there the player fight
enemies, bosses and earn precious experience points and gold coins.

Teaser text from the American version:
The Age of Chaos is upon the Chaltar
world! The source of this chaos is
rumored to be at the heart of an ancient
tower. Join Sadler, Rumi, Kindi, and
Fakhyle as they begin a new quest: to
learn the secret of the ancient tower and
stop the madness spreading over the land. Choose from 5 different
characters as you hack, slash, and bach your way through foreign
lands, putrid pyramids, and deadly dungeons while enjoying intense
cinema sequences along the way. Will Sadler be able to unlock the
secret of the ancient tower and stop the insanity that is spreading
throughout the land? Only you can decide that as you guide Salder
through this heart-stopping Action/RPG!

Exile II Janen no Jishō is definitely a step above its
predecessor - graphics are nicer and sharper, the action a lot more
interesting and the four playable characters really add some spice
to the gameplay. But, for me, the game's biggest drawback is how unfair
Exile II is to the player. The game's collision detection is
imprecise and spotty - you never sure if you'll hit an enemy and things
often become annoyingly confusing. The difficulty is uneven throughout
so parts will be extremely easy while others will leave you pulling
your hair out (interestingly, the American version is overall a lot
harder). Once again, the Japanese version is way cheaper than the
American game - it's up to you if you want to spend $100+ for English
dubbed cinematics (despite their excellent quality) and English
text (really useful if you want to get around the game's menus).
An average game despite the beauty of its animated cutscenes and
the fascinating soundtrack.
