Theron's Quest is a first-person dungeon crawler for the PC Engine system,
conversion of FTL's popular Dungeon Master. On the night of the harvest festival,
the great wizard Grey Lord descended from the sky and landed in Theron's village.
He was looking for a warrior courageous enough to retrieve the seven parts of a magic armor,
what he called The Seven Symbols Of The Brave. Theron, a young boy ready to become
a man, accepts the challenge and is now on a journey to retrieve the stolen treasures. The player
takes control of Theron and three other warriors (a different party can be created at
the beginning of each dungeon). The game features seven small dungeons (Ak-Tu-Ba, City
Of Formica, Village Of Thieves, Tower Of Drator, Tomb Of Sarmon,
Den Of Shadodan and Demon's gate), and each one of them is a separate adventure entirely.
Theron has to go venture inside each dungeon, retrieve the stolen piece of holy armor and trace
his steps back so the treasure can be placed inside a sacred shrine. Unlike other games of the series,
all the collected belongings are lost between each level, and only the hero of the game,
Theron, keeps his statistics and gained levels. Each dungeon has its own background
story and sets of monsters - Ak-Tu-Ba, for instance, is a floating fortress infested
with mummies and City of Formica a large network of creepy underground tunnels.

Teaser text from the American version:
The Monastery of Ya-Brodin has fallen to the Cult of
Deaths and the Brotherhood of Enlightement, the true
keepers of Magic, have been slaughtered. The Seven
Great Treasures now lie in the hands of foul
beings who will stop at nothing to hold onto their massive
powers. But Theron, with a courage beyond belief, has
decided to seek out the Cult of Deaths and win
back the Treasures. If he succeeds, he will become a High Lord.
If not, the land will see eternal darkness.

Here is Dungeon Master for the PC Engine system. But beware, it is not
a straight conversion, far from it, but rather an 'adaptation'
of the original game. Firstly, players don't explore
a large and unique dungeon, but seven small ones, and the game's progress
can only be saved upon completion of such dungeon. This totally changes the structure
of the original game and makes it a bit more Action than Adventure based.
Consequently, Dungeon Master : Theron's Quest is rather sparse and end up being a cut down
version of Faster Than Light's classic. It is a shame, the CDRom format should
have given the developer a great opportunity to create one of the best episode in the
series. Nonetheless, they have included more sound effects (some monsters make creepy
sounds when they move around) and each dungeon has its own music theme. Some of
them are a bit too much on the 'pop rock' side (which doesn't really fit the game),
but others (such as 'City of Formica') are a lot more atmospheric and interesting.
All in all, Dungeon Master : Theron's Quest is not a bad game but a bit of a let
down in my opinion, and the CDRom format deserved a lot more than what it got...
