Cobra 2 is a Digital Comic by Hudson Soft, sequel
of Cobra - Space Adventure released in 1989.
The game is based on the comic books and television series by Buichi Terasawa.
Like its predecessor, this game needs a heavy knowledge of Japanese language
to be fully appreciated. The game follows a traditional Digital-Comic
structure with menus and choices to pick. Consequently, no need to type any text here, just pick
the right choice at the right time which, with some practice, can help the player
go though the game without much Japanese skills. The game can also
be saved at anytime by pressing 'Select'. The cool Cobra
and his powerful Psycho-Gun hidden within his arm are here for the party,
without forgetting the legion of cute girls surrounding our hero and which
gave the series its hype.
Other famous characters from the television series, and especially from the manga,
as also here for the player’s delight - such as the beautiful Jane Flower and the
evil and mysterious Crystal Boy.

Introduction text from the Japanese version:
His name is Cobra.
He's a master of the universe, the legendary pirate of the
people. His domain is space and he cruises the galaxy with
hi lady Armoroid riding shotgun. No one can match his sense
of survival as he always outwits the Galaxy Patrol.
There's a prize out on his head but he can't be touched.
The man is mean to the bone.
He shralps his foes like frogs in a blender.
One day, he just up and boogied. Most folks think he's
long gone.
But he's not dead...
He's changed his face to fool the dirtbags who lurk behind
the forces the evil.
He's hanging out on Earth, waiting for his Lady to tune
his Turtle, the ultimate space digger.
Now he's back to himself and he's gonna waste any space
filth that gets in his way. His pilot-first forearm
will make sure of that.
The name is Cobra.

Cobra 2 Space Aventure was actually translated in English. However, the
game wasn't available for the TurboGrafx-16 (American version of the
PC Engine). Interestingly, it was released for the Sega CD in
the US and Europe as The Space Adventure (picture on the left).
Both versions are really hard to find and can fetch high prices.

I will start here my traditional "Digital Comics" comments -
a little knowledge of Japanese is needed to appreciate the game
in full, to figure out the menus and actions to take, but also
to understand the dialogues. So I had to warn you there. If you happen to like Digital Comics, as I do,
then Cobra 2 is a delightful feast.
Cobra 2 is a lot more dynamic than the first opus with better
graphics (some full screen) and a lot more cinematic animations. At times, it felt
like I was watching an episode of the series, not in the quality
of the graphics nor animations, but in the overall ambience of the game.
An excellent Digital Comic that I would completely
advise to any fan of the Cobra comics who can speak/read
a little Japanese.
