Bakushô Yoshimoto No Shinkigeki is based on a popular and hilarious Japanese comedy series.
The player takes control of a very cartoony and hilarious character without
any noticeable super powers or anything of the sort. He can run and jump on
other characters' heads to stun them in a Mario-ish way. It is not clear who
the enemies are though - nothing seems to be
really harmful in Bakushô Yoshimoto No Shinkigeki... The player loses a heart if hit by
any of the dozens of characters wondering around the game, but they all look friendly and
somehow amusing. Except maybe for these wild running
dogs. Anyway. Countless items are also scattered around the various levels and they are virtually
always in the shape of food - such as hamburgers or rice - and they obviously can
give the player some of his precious health back. However, some special items give the
player special funny powers for a short time and often
clean up everything on screen. Levels can also be non linear in places and
they always end up with a crazy challenge the player must win to carry
on his journey.

I am not fully sure about the following, but here we go !..
The whole game is based on a famous Japanese comedy show - Yoshimoto Kogyo
is a form of comedy which started in Osaka theaters in 1912. It later spread
and this sort of comedy evolved and appeared on NHK public television. Other
forms are also known as Manzai (Comedy duo).
So Yoshimoto Shinkigeki translates as a comedy theater, and bakushô means 'burst of
laughter'. Furthermore, the main character in this game seems to be
the Japanese actor Hazama Kanpei, and other characters such as Chary Hama appear in the
game too (aren't then the same person ?). I am not sure if this game includes every
major Yoshimoto names, or just Hazama Kanpei ..

Bakushô Yoshimoto No Shinkigeki is crazy and really funny. I personally love it !
It starts as a simple platform game but quickly becomes
really weird - like the wacky duo dance competition
where you can choose your partner from a granny or a young
girl, or the pizza competition where you can throw pieces of
hot pizza at the face of your opponent. Levels are also
very well designed and you won't get bored, believe me ! Tons
of ridiculous jokes pop-up all the time and will certainly
draw a smile on your face. The first time I saw this title
I was certainly wondering what kind of game it was - I was far from expecting
something that good and hilarious. Anyway, some players may not
share this opinion as the overall humor is really lowbrow but
I find it amusing and fun to play.
