Asuka 120% Maxima Burning Fest is a one-on-one fighting game only
featuring cute girls. Asuka Honda, the main character of the game, is a high
school girl whose passion is to blow things up and play with chemistry. Did I
mention she also wears a cute high school uniform ? Other characters are of course available
and they all are high school girls from different clubs. No less than
ten playable fighters with their own set of techniques can be selected such as
the fit Torami, Nana and her deadly fans,
the gymnast Kumi, Kiyoko and her baseball attacks,
the bad tempered Megumi and Cathy with her... interesting curves.
The game proposes traditional combos and an intuitive special attack system using the
two buttons of a standard Nec paddle, unlike other fighters for the system where
a 4 buttons controller is usually required.

Asuka 120% Maxima Burning Festival Maxima is only one episode of a long series of
games featuring the cute Asuka. Everything probably started on Japanese computers
such as the X68000 and the FM-Towns where Asuka 120% Burning Festival was released in 1994
by Family Soft and Fill-In Cafe. Then the PC Engine version came out a year later. No less
than three other titles followed and were only available for Sony's Playstation :
Asuka 120% Special Burning Fest (1996) Asuka 120% Excellent: Burning Festival (1997),
and Asuka 120% Burning Fest. Final (1999). It is interesting to notice than a Sega Saturn
version was also available - Asuka 120% Burning Fest. Limited (1997).

I was sort of worried at first when I purchased this game - Fill In Cafe's
Algunos was
the company’s last attempt (that I knew of) to surf the fighting’s wave so popular back in the
mid-90s and started by ultra-famous titles such as Capcom's excellent Street Fighter.
And girl fighting games don't usually have a good press,
their makers usually bet more on their 'Naughty' and 'Sexy'
content than their gameplay.
But hey ! Asuka 120% Maxima Burning Fest is actually... really good ! Nice graphics,
great combos, catchy music and especially excellent and furious
gameplay. Everything flows very well with fast and easy to learn controls.
One of the best fighter for the system.
